On Monday, we passed on a boat ride and snorkeling trip to Molokini Crater with everyone else, as it was not age-appropriate for Vale. We were disappointed, but made alternative fun plans. We walked approximately 4 miles (round trip) of the Beachwalk, weaving through different luxurious resorts, turquoise beaches, and lovely scenery. Vale slept for much of it, but woke up just in time for some fun in the sand, while Jenn took a dip in the peaceful, blue, sea. The water in Maui is warmer than in San Diego and is a perfectly cool contrast to the hot and slightly humid weather.
Early this evening, the whole family went to old town Lahaina to walk around, hang out in the banyan tree park, and eat dinner at Captain Jack’s.
Vale grew fussy during dinner, so Jenn took her back out to the banyan tree park and let her crawl around. She took this opportunity to spell out “10” with some yellow leaves and take Vale’s 10 month photos, and while basking in the glory of her spontaneous creativity, wasn’t paying attention – suddenly, she noticed Vale was chewing on a rock off the ground.
Later on in the night, after the kiddos were down for the night, the big kids had too many beers while sitting on lounge chairs overlooking the ocean, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. While we were imbibing by the seaside, a giant praying mantis caught in the Hawaiian night breeze floated over to Jamie’s shoulder and stopped in her palm for a bit to say hello. He decided we were too intoxicated for his taste, and soon went about his business.
