Pueblo Paisa

After a stint in balmy Tamesis, we returned to Frank’s rather temperate haven in Envigado, where the kids continued to be way more excited by strange cats than their own. We lazed about, went to mall playgrounds by day, and drank wine and played poker with Frank at night after the kids went to sleep. We returned to the Tesoro mall to meet up with Darren and his friends, and let the kids enjoy the amusement park rides one more time.

We took it easy and had it in us for one more small activity the day before our departure. We went to Medellin to meet up with Darren and tour Frank’s condos and penthouses, which were close to being done. With a rooftop pool, views from the 26th floor, high ceilings, and views or balconies in most rooms, it was a city living dream. Maybe next time we come, they’ll be done, and we’ll get to live there like kings for a bit.

Afterwards, while Frank had a business meeting, we decided to check out Pueblo Paisa. Darren warned that it was a fake little pueblo and wouldn’t seem very interesting after visiting real ones like Jericó and El Retiro, but we figured it was an easy and nearby thing to do. He was definitely right, but it was still cute, and we enjoyed some coffee, lunch, and assorted junk foods.

I bought a lemon and sugar cane juice called Guarapo, which I loved. The first time I had sugar cane juice was in Vietnam, and the Colombian version with lime was pretty different and extra refreshing. We indulged in some ice cream, candy, and chicharron. I loaded up on guava candy and a tamarind fruit roll for the trip home.

On the morning of February 27, I walked around Frank’s house for the last time, enjoying the fresh air and views from the roof, and taking one last look at the funky green door and Alice in Wonderland hallway. Alas, vacation does not last forever.
